Yaya Toure and a host of other footballers have teamed up with actor Idris Elba to form ‘Africa United’, with a message helping to stop the spread of ebola across and educate more people on the disease and those on the frontline fighting against it.
Two videos have been produced with the CDC foundation, designed to communicate effective methods of stemming the spread of the disease that has been headline news in 2014.
The ‘We’ve Got Your Back’ stars Elba alongside the likes of Yaya Toure, Patrick Vieira, Fabrice Muamba, Carlton Cole and Andros Townsend.
The message being that whilst many fans look up to football players as heroes, the real heroes are the nurses, doctors and healthcare workers across West Africa and the rest of the World putting their lives on the line to stem the spread of ebola.
The other video takes the form of a team talk, in which Elba – who was the creative force behind the two videos – gives a team talk to a group of young footballers.
This time, though, the opposition aren’t another team – instead it’s the deadly disease, and the tactics aren’t 4-4-2’s or inverted wingers; they’re hand washing and recognising the symptoms early.
