White Copa Mundial | The Classic Football Boot Goes White

White Copa Mundial

For many people, football boots begin and end with the adidas Copa Mundial. A triumph of engineering and design with a timeless sense of style, the Copas (as many lovingly refer to them as) have stood the test of time for three decades.

In the time the Copas have been on the shelves, we’ve seen innovations like Power and Swerve zones added to boots, weight stripped back to the bare minimum and aircraft grade carbon fibre used to make football boots as boundary pushing as possible.

But whilst all that has been going on, the adidas Copa Mundial has been more than comfortable with it’s lot, becoming the world’s best-selling boot without ever changing it’s design. However, adidas have given them a little tweak this time out with the White Copa Mundial.

Inverting the classic Copa colour scheme, the new White Copa Mundial offers up the same great boot with an all-new look. The K-Leather on this classic release has never looked softer than here in pure White, whist the iconic Three Stripes are picked out in black.

The white foldover tongue remains from the original release and the laces are contrasted in black, matching the heel colour and moulded stud soleplate – which again is unchanged, retaining the twelve-stud, conical configuration that has served so many players so well.

The Copa Mundial became the most popular football boot of all time in 2001.

The original Adidas Copa Mundial football boot was released in 1979 in black leather. Originall designed for the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain, hence the name Copa Mundial, which is Spanish for World Cup.

In 2007, Adidas released a limited edition 25th anniversary package for the Copa Mundial, including a box with anniversary artwork, a wooden shoe trees, leather polish, a key chain, and a postcard with Die deutsche Fußballnationalmannschaft from 1982 and a cloth.

This boot had a minor change with the name “Copa Mundial” on the side of the boot in gold instead of silver letters, along with some tweaks to the tongue and heel collar, like the 1982 original.

A new look to the Copa Mundial at the start of a World Cup season – adidas have some big things planned for their best-selling boots in the run-up to Brazil.

In the mean time, is this the perfect update to arguably the most iconic boots of all time?

Or is it anything but all-white?
