Arsene Wenger believes that Arsenal can still win the double, the Premier League and the Champions League.
Arsenal face Liverpool at Anfield tonight in the second leg of the Champions League quarter finals. Liverpool have the advantage, playing at home and with an away goal.
Arsenal are third in the Premier League, they have five games left to play and are six points behind Manchester United, United also have a superior goal difference.
Arsenal’s remaining 5 fixtures are, Man Utd away, Reading at home, Derby away, Everton at home and Sunderland away.
Despite what looks like a mountain to climb for Arsenal to win anything this season, Arsene Wenger is adamant the gunners can do the double.
Arsene Wenger:
I still believe we can finish as champions in the league but we need to win at United on Sunday. Manchester United’s result at Middlesbrough on Sunday helped a lot.
We did have a dip recently it’s true. We can’t deny that. But football is strange sometimes.
It is possible we can win the last five games. Of course, I said that before the Liverpool game as well, but I said five games and one draw would make it.
It is compulsory that we win at Old Trafford if we want to win the championship.
I also believe we can win the Champions League. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think that.
We need a similar spirit to the one we showed at the San Siro.
I believe we can win anywhere in the world. We are not going to play the game to go to penalties, we will play it to win.
There will be more urgency in this game and less observation. My wish is not to be patient. I want to score early goals.
