Rafael Benitez believes his Liverpool side can improve still further after thrashing Aston Villa 5 – 0 at Anfield.
The Merseyside club moved to within 1 point of Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table and now have a superior goal difference as the Midlanders were swept aside courtesy of a Steven Gerrard hat trick plus goals from Dirk Kuyt and Albert Riera.
It took Liverpool’s tally of goals to 13 in the past 3 games, having previously put 4 past both Real Madrid and United.
Benitez looked on from the touchline without raising a smile as his side completed their demolition job and then pronounced that he thought there would be more to come saying:
We were scoring goals but didn’t play particularly well.
We had a lot of opportunities to play a little bit better. I’m really pleased as it was a great performance but it can always be a little bit better.
If United do make mistakes we must be ready, and that means carrying on doing what we are doing and winning points.
We are playing well, and they will see that we are playing well and trying to win every game. We have eight games left, and every one must be won – and be treated as a cup final.
Certainly we must maintain this momentum, and when we are playing well it just increases confidence.
We now have an international break, so the players must come back from that, re-group and start playing again just as we are at the moment.
Rafa really didn’t crack a smile the whole game. A bit ambitious tough. His team played a superb game with minor mistakes. Ex.(lossing concentration.) That’s the only real mistake I cuaght. Personally I am preying to see liverpool on top of the table in the end.. The way the squad is playing I wouldn’t be surprised about champions league title their to..
