The new USA away jersey for the 2012 / 2013 season has had a facelift, continuing with a lot of the styling of its predecessor.
Clint Dempsey debuted the new USA away shirt in perfect style, scoring the only goal as the US beat Italy 1-0 in Italy’s own backyard.
The new USA away shirt for 2012 / 13 carries a similar theme from the previous USA away shirt, using the classic Collegiate look that is so integral to American sports as the basis for it’s inspiration.
The contrasting white sleeves to a navy blue chest on the USA away shirt are a nod to the famous Varsity jackets worn by promising athletes throughout their education, while a crossover collar features red, white and blue stripes.
As well as looking forward to a bright future with a whole host of bright young players coming through the ranks, the latest USA away shirt also looks back to the victories of the past, with a tonal sash, reminiscent of the shirts worn by the USA Team who defeated England in the 1950 World Championship finals in Brazil.
Inside the neck the American Stars and Stripes flag, affectionately known as “Old Glory,” inspires pride in today’s squad of players.
The new away shorts are blue, while the new away socks, now with improved cushioning for greater comfort, movement and protection, are also blue with a white and red stripe at the top.
As with all of Nike’s recent kits, the 2012 edition of the USA away shirt features a blend of features committed to improving athletic performance as well as an environmental conscience.
Each kit is made from 13 recycled plastic bottles reclaimed from landfill sites in Asia, woven into the latest incarnation of the immortal Nike Dri-Fit fabric – designed to transport moisture away from the skin whilst the player is in action – with the added bonus of being 23% lighter than the 2008 edition.
What do you think of the latest USA away shirt from Nike?
You’ve read this far, you may as well leave us a comment about it!
Why the hell is Nike, an American company using water bottles from Asia. Don’t we have enough water bottles  in landfills in the us for them to use?
My guess: the fabric from those water bottles is made in Asia, as is the actual construction of the shirts. If you really wanted them to use American water bottles the price of the shirt would skyrocket to justify shipping bottles over to Asia.
