INJURIES SPOIL UNITED SUCCESS

Carling Cup Manchester United injuriesManchester United may have reached the Carling Cup final but their victory over Championship side Derby has been tarnished by injuries to three players.

United recovered from a 1 – 0 first leg deficit to win the second leg at Old Trafford 4 – 2 but Anderson, Rafael and Jonny Evans all face time out of the game after failing to complete the 90 minutes.

Anderson was stretchered off with a mystery injury following a challenge from Giles Barnes and will have an X-ray today to try and pin point the problem. Meanwhile, Rafael could be out for 4 weeks with a hamstring injury and Evans faces 7 days on the side lines after a former ankle injury flared up again.

Speaking after the game, manager Sir Alex Ferguson said:

grafite We have a few injuries so it’s been bad in that respect but we’re in the final and we should be celebrating.

Anderson has some damage. We are not exactly sure what but we will see what happens.

Evans has had a recurrence of ankle injury that he has been holding for a few weeks, but hopefully he’ll be back next week.

Rafael has a hamstring injury and he’ll be out for a few weeks.
