One of our favourite new silos to emerge in 2014 (and that’s saying something) is the Umbro UX1. And whilst the launch Blackberry Purple colurway was no slouch, this Umbro UX1 – Team Royal is particularly tasty.
Despite being a very technical pair of football boots, we’re happy to see Umbro resisting the temptation to make each different component a different colour, giving these cleats a fairly clean look.
But what is all that tech up to? Well, the Umbro UX1 has a little bit of something for everyone, in terms of features.
The upper is a leather grain synthetic that keeps out water and enhances control, whilst the ‘TouchZone’ web adds an extra layer of control and power where it’s needed most.
The instep and heel of the boot uses an ArmorTex composite (which you might have noticed covered the whole boot on the launch ‘Concept’ model), which effectively disperses impact, whilst still being soft and waterproof.
Sharp-eyed readers will also notice that the A-Frame cradle uses the same layout as the Geometra II from last year. This not only works with the lacing system to pull the soleplate and upper close to the foot, but also traps in the material from the upper to create a cushioned pass and control zone.
The soleplate uses elements from Umbro football boots past based on player feedback; ten forefoot studs spaced to reduce pressure and increase comfort.
Conical forefoot studs create superior traction, making rapid changes in direction effortless and stabilise the foot when planting.

Why no SG versions in any of the colourways?
interesting that the armortex is only (or only visible?) in half the boot now. i hope to see the review for this boot soon, it is very intriguing. the new colorway is cool too, if not too different from the earlier purple one.
