After a season away from Premier League kits, Umbro are back in a big way, revealing the all-new Everton Home Shirt for 2014-15.
For anyone worried that Umbro’s sense of style might have dulled in their absence, one look at the Toffee’s new game-day gear should assuage any fears.
After last season’s issues with the design of the team crest, Umbro might have had the odds stacked against them; at once, the Double-Diamond needed to create something stand-out enough to announce their return to England’s top flight, whilst also respecting the club’s storied heritage.
Thankfully, they’ve managed to pull both off.
Paying homage not just to Everton’s history as a football club, but also that of Umbro the inspiration for the shirt starts in 1924; the same year Umbro was founded, Everton won the ‘Barcelona Cup’ in Spain [beating Newcastle United 3-2] wearing royal blue shirts, white shorts and navy socks.
Umbro has taken inspiration from this strip and used modern performance technology to create the new 2014/15 home kit.
The lightweight home shirt, in classic Everton blue, features a textured micro shadow stripe and a shaped, dropped hem for improved fit. A woven grandad collar in dark navy with a concealed top button completes the smart visual.
The shoulders of the shirt are reinforced with flat lock stitching, to provide strength where it’s needed, while under-arm panels enhance movement. The side seams have been moved forwards to reduce friction and stitched to the outside of the shirt to keep the inside of the shirt smooth. The Club crest and Umbro logo are embroidered in white stitching.
On the back of the shirt there are eight laser cut ventilation holes to keep players cool.
The top eyelet on each side is in the shape of the iconic Toffee Tower, giving a unique sign-off for the Club.
The white shorts are crafted with movement in mind. Mesh insert panel seams offer enhanced breathability and a shaped inseam creates a fitted shape. The club crest and Umbro double diamond are applied in Everton blue to provide a clean, smart finish.
Attention to design detail extends through to the dark navy socks. The construction and fabrication ensures maximum breathability, comfort and performance. Anatomical footbeds, ‘Y’ heels and low profile toe seams provide a superior fit. A double welt cuff ensures the sock retains its shape and smartness.
