In a move that could be described as the Summer 2010 Football Transfer Window’s ‘Worst Kept Secret’ Thierry Henry has confirmed his more from F.C Barcelona to New York Red Bulls.
Following on from a disappointing and fragmented World Cup, French forward Thierry Henry is looking to start anew in the MLS with the well established Red Bulls.
Allowing his contract to be terminated early from FC Barcelona meant that Fightin’ Energy Drinks (as no-one calls them) were able to get the former-Arsenal man on a free transfer.
New York Red Bulls will also be hoping that the prospect of seeing a top-level star like Henry will help sell some more tickets at their brand new stadium, The Red Bull Arena, which is definitely not in New Jersey (little in-joke there for our MLS fans).
Henry will, however, have the home comfort of facing old arch-rivals as he is expected to make his d'©but against Tottenham Hotspur in a Pre-Season friendly on July 22nd.
Is this the right move for Henry? Does it seem like a good piece of business for NYRB?
We want to know!
As a New Yorker, I am very happy.
Im feeling hopeful, but well have to see how henry meshes with the mls style, and if he can assume his creator role. im also curious to see how juan pablo angel reacts to no longer being new yorks “eurostar.”
Its New York RED BULL, singular, after the energy drink. Not Red bulls.
Lol MLS is a great way to end a career especially if they pay you well. Like you’re old but a club still regards you as high valued because you played in Europe.
Poor Thierry, I hope he doesn’t end up like Ronaldo, Zidane, Ronaldinho, or Becks… ending a triumphant career in disgrace, having lost either respect ( Ronaldo, Beckham ) skill ( Ronaldinho ) or doing something he will regret for the rest of his life ( Zidane ).
