John Terry, the England captain, will miss Saturday’s World Cup qualifying match against Kazakhstan, and is likely to miss Wednesday’s tie against Belarus, due to a back injury.
Terry has been sidelined by a recurrence of a back complaint. He’s been suffering since Chelsea’s Champions League tie with CFR Cluj last week. Terry attempted a training session but had to pull up after just 20 minutes.
There is slender hope for Terry as Capello will give him the opportunity to recover for the match in Belarus. It is however more likely that Terry will withdraw from the England setup today and return to Chelsea for medical support.
With Terry missing, Rio Ferdinand will wear the armband and Wes Brown, Matthew Upson and Joleon Lescott will all be hoping to take advantage of Terry’s absence.
