Wayne Rooney has had his fair share of spectacular goals; epic volleys, long-range rockets and some tidy-close range efforts.

But one goal stands above all others – the overhead kick against Manchester City. This video sees Wayne Rooney lace up his new Nike T90 Laser IV football boots for the first time in order to recreate that ‘perfect strike’.

We join the Manchester United and England striker in a darkened stadium as he receives his new' football boots in a bespoke flight case.

After unboxing them and lacing them up, the powerful forward starts his run, surging towards the edge of the box with the ball coming in overhead, all the while, the view is treated to some great close-ups of the new Nike T90 Laser IV, which are being scanned by some sci-fi style readouts.

As the ball comes in overheard, time comes to a crawl as the young striker lines up his volley, connecting with the ball in super-slow motion we can see the impact rippling across the upper of his new ' football boots as the ball flies in.

Whilst the viral itself is cool (obviously, it’s a Nike video, it has to be cool!), the interesting parts come in the behind-the-scenes video we’ve got our grubby mitts on for you, below!

In it, we get to see how fast Rooney actually connects with the ball in the slow-motion shot that’s at the centre of the video, giving us a real appreciation of the technology Nike have used to create this ad!

But also, Rooney talks candidly about not only the Nike T90 Laser IV, but also ' football boots in general.

The Manchester United hot-shot says:

“As a football player, your' football boots are so important. There’s a lot of force going through your feet, your boot needs to be able to support and make sure you get the right connection.”

“I’m really impressed with the new Adaptive Shield. Just on your instep, you manage to generate a lot more spin on the ball. It’s great for forwards, but it makes it a lot harder for the goalkeepers!”
