As we reported on Footy Boots a couple of weeks back, Franck Ribery’s decision to extend his deal with Nike looks like ending his time at Adidas backed Bayern Munich.
Indeed, it’s possible that at the Allianz Arena tonight, the French international could be lining up against his next team as Nike sponsored Barcelona have emerged as the favourites to land his signature at the end of the season. If so, this could very well be Ribery’s last European jaunt for Bayern who trail the Spaniard’s by 4 goals to nil after the first leg.
Despite the assurances of Bayern’s Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who said that Ribery’s deal with Nike would not affect his position at the club, it’s understood that negotiations between Bayern and Barca are quite advanced.
The potential move was also given more weight by some quotes from Ribery’s team mate Mark van Bommel who said:
Franck has told me he wants to play for Barcelona.
The news will come as a blow to both Manchester United and Manchester City who were also reportedly interested in signing the player.
Barcelona.. Greatest team in the world. At this current point in time, unstoppable. With ribery, unbelievable.
Bayern is a good team, just doesn’t compare to barcelona right now.. This season..
