Juande Ramos, who was sacked as Spurs coach in October, has made a dramatic return to the game replacing Bernd Schuster at Real Madrid until the end of the season.
Ramos will take charge of the Spanish giants for the first time on Wednesday when they face Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League. His first game in La Liga will be this weekend against arch rivals Barcelona.
The Real Madrid board ran out of patience with Schuster after last weekend’s 4 – 3 home defeat by Sevilla. Madrid are currently 5th in the table, 9 points behind Barca.
Ramos has signed a 6 month contract and today told the press:
I would like to thank the board for their confidence – I face this job with excitement. It’s everybody’s dream.
I hope I don’t let anyone down and that I achieve the successes that this club has set for this season.
In most of my previous jobs I have had short contracts. We came to a quick agreement and I’m delighted.
If I’m happy at the end of the season then I might extend the contract. Both sides are free to see what happens.
