Boy, Nike have revealed a massive chip on their shoulder ahead of the launch of the new Tiempo Legend V – and they’ve enlisted some heavy-hitters to back up their point.
It seems the Swoosh feel that their most historic silo is being taken for granted a little bit; slapped with labels like ‘all-rounder’, ‘nice’ or ‘for beginners’ and pigeon-holed into categories like ‘heritage’.
Well, that sort of talk just isn’t going to fly any more, muchachos.
Ahead of a new entry into the Tiempo dynasty, Nike want to remind everyone the dangers of underestimating the Tiempo Legend and the players who wear them.
To kick off the campaign, Gerard Pique asks ‘Who are you calling ‘nice’?’, whilst Ashley Cole wants to know ‘Who are you calling ‘done’?
Both stars face down the camera in moody black and white, exuding the sort of swagger that comes with being Champions at just about every level between them, whilst listing off the reasons why you – yes, you – are straight-up wrong, son.
Delivering a shot of pure testosterone via Youtube video, we’ve seen Nike dish out these intense, athlete-driven ‘come and get me’s in Basketball and American Football before – but this might be the first time we’ve seen it overtly made the centre of a football boot campaign.
And with other Tiempo wearers like Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Ronaldinho and Carlos Tevez already both training in the new boots and issuing their own ‘Who are you calling…’ call-outs via Facebook – we’re going to throw down, too by saying if the thought of more of these videos doesn’t get you jacked for the new Legend, nothing will.
Now, we’re off to drop-kick a rhino or wrestle a bear whilst you guys leave a comment below.
