Owen Hargreaves Switches from Puma to Adidas to Nike Football Boots
Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves will step out for England this weekend against Israel wearing Nike Air Legend football boots for the first time. This follows the news released from Nike that they have signed the curly-haired midfielder for an undisclosed amount into their football boot family. Hargreaves joins the likes of Ronaldinho, who wears a specially customised version of the football boot, Didier Drogba and Wayne Rooney in the Nike camp.
Owen Hargreaves Football Boots
The Bayern Munich footballer has been through a range of football boots as he has been sponsored by Puma for the last six years. More recently Hargreaves was seen wearing the Adidas football boot of his England team mate and admirer, David Beckham, the Adidas Predator Absolute football boot. The announcement of his switch to Nike football boots will raise a few eyebrows and sees yet another loss by Adidas to its bigger rival. At the moment it is not known whether Hargreaves will wear a customised football boot, or the standard Nike Air Legend football boot.
Nike Air Legend Football Boots
The Nike Air Legend is a powerful yet supple, kangaroo-leather football boot that favours strong, powerhouse midfield players. It also contains Nike’s Zoom Air technology, which gives firm and responsive cushioning at top speeds and fast “off-the-mark” movements. Players already wearing the football boot include Joe Cole, Benni McCarthy and Cesc Fabregas.
Our Verdict: For Hargreaves this summer sees a reported £18million transfer from Bayern Munich to Manchester United, a team famously sponsored by Nike. Hargreaves’ future team mates already in the Nike family include Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Louis Saha, Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand. Did Nike’s relationship with Man Utd have any bearing on his decision to switch from the stripes to the swoosh, and will Hargreaves stick with Nike, or change his football boots as often as his hair style?
He still wears Adidas when he plays for England.
Well spotted Bruce, who knows when the Nike boots will feature?
