OH KAY ON…UNITED, TOKYO, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND ADEBAYOR

Oh Kay Andy KayUnited woes

SAF is upset once again with Real Madrid who have been putting it about that a deal has been done for the transfer of European football of the year Cristiano Ronaldo. Fergie’s response is to claim that he “wouldn’t sell that mob a virus.” This from man who off-loaded David Beckham, Ruud van Nostlerooy and Gabriele Heinze to, er, Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, United officials are accused of providing unreliable and exaggerated evidence (that’s legal speak for telling porkies) at the FA’s Battle of the Bridge enquiry. Rather than castigate the staff involved, United’s response is to moan that the findings were made public. All very shabby.

Club World Cup

On the plus side, United have been crowned Club World Cup champions after winning the Fifa backed competition in Tokyo. United came out on top against a team I’ve never heard of from Japan, a team I’ve never heard of from Ecuador and a team I’ve never heard of from Mexico. Everybody at Old Trafford must be very proud indeed not to mention knackered after travelling half way round the world or indeed suspended having been silly enough to get sent off in the final.

Champions League 16

Uefa get many things wrong but they got the draw for the knock out stage of the Champions League spectacularly correct. Inter and Manchester United go head to head with the added side show that is Mourinho v Ferguson, Claudio Ranieri takes his Juve side to former club Chelsea where he’ll be more than keen to stick it good and proper to Roman Abramovich , Rafael Benitez is back in his homeland for Liverpool v Real Madrid and Arsenal get the chance to scupper a potential Italian party if they can upset AS Roma who’s ground will host the final. Roll on February 24th.

X rated Emmanuel?

So did Emmanuel Adebayor deserve to be sent off on Sunday? Sure enough his tackle on Alvaro Arbeloa was clumsy, a bit on the boisterous side and none to clever seeing as he was already on a caution. However, one thing we can say for certain is that there was no need for Arbeloa to collapse to the ground holding his face as if he’d been sucker punched by Lennox Lewis’s big brother.'  Why can we not have retrospective action against these simulating con men? Or cheats as we used to be able to call them.
