The Tiempo is back. The boot that became iconic in the 90’s continues to impress, as Nike look to build upon the legacy and innovative craftsmanship that the Tiempo is renowned for.

It might be the old hand in Nike’s cluster of boot silos, but the Tiempo continues to shine in the boot market despite a squad full of modern competitors.

The new Nike Tiempo 6 demonstrates why, as Nike put it; “We challenge ourselves to work with legendary materials in a new way”.

Let’s take a look at the new Tiempo 6, starting with the upper.

The upper is premium kangaroo leather and the Tiempo carries a small emblem to celebrate the leather. You’ll see it where the leather meets the heel counter.

The Nike Tiempo 6 boots herald a significant change from their predecessors, you will no longer find a quilted leather toe box. Nike have sought to provide the touch attributes of quilting, without extensively perforating the leather. The Tiempo 6 features an internal, cushioned cage that holds its shape and grooves the leather with minimal stitching.

Why replace the quilted toe box renowned for providing comfort and great touch? “By eliminating quilting, we reduce the possibility of mud or water seeping in through the quilt lines, as that can harden the leather.” Say Nike.

Staying with the upper, the tongue has also had a revamp, but traditionalists won’t be seeing a return to the oversized fold-over tongue. The laces are now integrated into a one-piece solution offering a sharper touch and more protective design.

The tongue and lacing leads us to the internal mid-foot cage, which is molded heel and microfiber sockliner to help keep the foot in place. The sockliner also has traction on its underside that aligns with silicon pods on the base of the boot, part of Tiempo Legend 6’s plate-to-sockliner, sockliner-to-sock traction system. The medial side of the boot is slightly higher than the lateral, to align with the anatomy of the ankle. This detail is noted by a small Swoosh inside the medial side.

On the flipside of the new Tiempo, the outsole remains unchanged with a mixture of conical and bladed studs on a flexible plate.
