Retaining a similar-but-different colour palette to it’s World Cup colourway, the ‘Deadly Attack’ in the Nike stable is back again for another bite at the new season, in the form of the Nike Hypervenom Phantom – Hyper Crimson / Atomic Orange.
Looking appropriately lethal in it’s first colourway update of the new season, the Swoosh’s Hypervenom Phantom was one of the best-received new football boots of last year, with many (including us) falling prey to it’s charms.
And it’s not just chancers like us, either – expect a whole swathe of top talent to tear it up in the Nike Hypervenom Phantom – Hyper Crimson / Atomic Orange when it makes it’s bow in the UEFA Champions League tonight.
Neymar has already helped himself to two goals in the latest Hypervenom colourway in Barca’s game at the weekend, whilst we can also expect Robert Lewandowski, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and bags of others to lace them up from this weekend onwards.
The new colourway is pretty smart, too – even if it does remind us of a delicious chewy treat here in the UK known as a ‘Fruit Salad’.
Two of Nike’s signature colours for the fall of ’14 – Total Crimson and Laser Orange – look a little similar, but the bold White-and-Black Nike branding on the forefoot and heel do go a a good way to breaking things up.
Despite having just launched some 15 months ago, the Nike Hypervenom Phantom has fast found itself the elder statesmen of the Nike range.
But that doesn’t mean it’s any less killer on the pitch.
A NikeSkin upper is seamless across the forefoot and midfoot for a massive contact area that feels ruddy lovely to hit a ball in, made better by the thin, textured mesh base.
The shape of the boot also makes it a winner for players with wider feet – and comes as one of our top recommendations for players with particularly hefty hooves.
A mix of conical and bladed studs grace the dual-density nylon/Pebax soleplate, which also brings in a split-toe design that allows the big toe a greater freedom of movement for maximum contact with the turf.
