New Balance Sign Athletic Bilbao Sponsorship Deal

New Balance Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao has signed a sponsorship deal with New Balance to kit out all their teams from next season. The current deal runs for 6 years until the 2022-2023 season.

New Balance has confirmed a sponsorship deal with Athletic Bilbao, taking over from Nike. The Boston-based firm already boasts deals with Liverpool, Celtic, Sevilla and Porto.

With eight league titles, 24 Copa del Rey and two Supercopa de España trophies, Athletic Bilbao has a strong heritage and a fierce drive to achieve much more. This latest sponsorship further signifies New Balance as one of the world’s leading sports brands across the globe.

New Balance is the sixth brand to have their brand on the Bilbao shirts. Adidas made the first kits back in 1982 before Italian brand Kappa took over from 1990 and 1999. The Germans resigned Bilbao for the period 1999 to 2001 before the club went solo with their own brand ‘Athletic’ for 8 years. Umbro then became sponsors between 2009 and 2013 before Nike, who bought out Umbro took over for the past four years.

Josu Urrutia, the Athletic Club President, commented:

We are delighted to embrace and share this new era for the Club, in which we face the tough task of defending our philosophy and moving forward based on our own approach to football. We feel that New Balance will become part of the history of our club, and are looking forward to working together on the challenges that await us in the future.

New Balance and Athletic Bilbao will unveil the full 2017/18 New Balance football range ahead of the 17/18 season.
