Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil has been causing all sorts of confusion amongst boots-fans over the past 6 weeks or so, and has only added to the furore over his football boots as he has donned yet another pair today.
The midfielder is currently on international duty with the German National Team, and took the opportunity to break in a pair of White/Runing Blue adidas F50 adiZero cleats.
The 23-year-old has spent most of his professional life in Nike Mercurial Vapors (though was in the adidas Predator in his time at Schalke 04), but has spent all summer flirting with the adidas Predator LZ.
And whilst most Footy-Boots.com fans agreed that the control and distribution-focused new Lethal Zones were a good fit for Ozil’s passing style of play, the former Werder Bremen star clearly misses the ultra-lightweight feel of a speed boot as he’s picked up a pair of the adiZero.
There have been no statement from Nike, adidas or Ozil’s official channels as to the state of the playmaker’s personal deal with Nike – the last we heard Ozil had been offered updated terms to his contract, that would see him through to 2015.
Though there have been rumours that the star might have turned down the improved contract, in favour of testing out the wide variety of boots on the market. If this is the case, we have to hand it to the youngster, choosing the right boots for himself over guaranteed terms from Nike is certainly the mark of a man who likes his boots.
Whilst this might well be have been another golden opportunity for Puma to snap up another A-List star, their CEO recently announced they’d be cutting back on big-money contracts, following falling short of projected players for the last two quarters.
Another rumour is that adidas are expected to make a move for the star, given the opportunity to make him a triple-threat player, who plays in adidas kits for club and country, as well as a personal deal.
If that were the case, would Ozil suit the Predator or F50 better?
Let us know in the comments!
marcelo 12 too…
This. Needs to be the color right now. No rainbows but beauty white.
those adizeros look absolutely beautiful, but the predators might suit him better. still, it’s all about what he prefers in the end (he might be using the f50s with leather forefoots, which are prbbly comfortable enough). if he is testing other boots though, doesnt he get fined by Nike for doing so? and i didnt understand what happened with Puma, theyre not selling well so they arent signing any more big ones, or they havent been able to sign as much as they can? bc then i’d rather have a few big stars rather than a bunch of lower level ones, but idk, perhaps that works as well.
Ozil has made an official statement that his Nike contract ended on july 31st and he’s now using the unsigned time to try other boots. As for the F50’s..close up pics on another site suggest they’re synthetics.

Mad world we live in…
Empurlus I agree! Nothing beats a pair of all whites!! I would think the
preds would suit Ozil more with them being a more well rounded boot to
suit various playing styles – and they are very light too!
