WIGAN LAND MARTINEZ

Martinez joins WiganWigan have finally got their man and are expected to unveil new manager Roberto Martinez at a media conference on Tuesday.

The deal taking Martinez to the JJB had stalled while Wigan agreed a compensation package with Swansea for the 35 year old and his assistants.

He had been due to take over the reins last week but a previously agreed compensation payment didn’t include other members of Martinez’s management team. Now it seems that his assistant Graeme Jones and chief scout Kevin Reeves will also make the move.

Martinez has signed a 3 year deal and replaces Steve Bruce who has taken over at Sunderland.

The final settlement between the two clubs is to remain undisclosed but Swansea chairman Huw Edwards said:

martinez joins wigan I don’t think either club is totally happy with the final compensation figure agreed for the backroom staff.

But I think both clubs realise that this matter now needs to be concluded so that we can all move on and prepare for the new season.
