Man City take advantage of 10 man Portsmouth to get within two points behind Portsmouth who remain in 7th place.

Darius Vassell opened the scoring for Man City on 10 minutes, City took advantage of a mix up between David James and Sol Campbell. Benjani took possession from the mix up, he found Stephen Ireland, whose mishit shot landed at Vassells feet two yards, he slotted the ball home.

City’s second was also fortunate, Martin Petrov’s deflected shot found the net just two minutes after City’s first.

John Utaka pulled one back for Pompey midway through the half, his looping header beating Hart.

Things got even worse for Portsmouth, 5 minutes before the break they went down to 10 men. Hermann Hreidarsson was adjudged to have fouled Vassell as he went towards goal, the referee Andre Marriner yielded the red card.

Man City finished the game off on 74 minutes, Benjani deservedly on the scoresheet with a tidy shot.
