Reports suggest that Manchester City are keen to sign Giovani dos Santos, the Barcelona player, son of Zizinho.
Giovani, 18 years old, is already a Mexican international, plying his trade at Barcelona. It looks likely that the young starlet, like many other youngsters who have been on Barca’s books, will be leaving the Nou Camp before he matures as a player.
With a host of leading clubs interested in the attacking midfielder, surprisingly Man City look to be ahead of more successful clubs in the race for his signature.
Giovani is registered as a Mexican international despite his father being the former Brazilian international Zizinho. His mother is Mexican and he began his career in the Mexican league at Club Monterrey.
Giovani made his first team debut for Barcelona this season, both in La Liga and in the Champions League and has already gained full international caps for Mexico.
He is highly regarded and already looks to be fulfilling his potential. He had previously stated that he has never thought about leaving Barcelona, but his father who has helped out with his career in the past, has spoken to Mexican press and clearly stated that Giovani is looking for a move elsewhere, although he still has three years to run on his existing deal.
Zizinho:
The news is certain, but the subject is in the hands of the agent. We would prefer much discretion until the end of the season.
We will not decide, but Barca know the situation as we have had contact with sporting director Txiki Beguiristain.
Our objective now is for him to finish the season with Barcelona at a good level and then we will speak.
Other English clubs have demanded information about Giovani but the main chance is Man City.
