Liverpool have decided to appeal the extended ban imposed on Javier Mascherano.
Mascherano was sent off at Manchester United on 23 March, and was found guilty of improper conduct after having to be dragged away from referee Steve Bennett, he was banned for an extra two games and fined £15,000.
Liverpool feel the penalty imposed on Mascherano is too harsh and have decided to appeal against the punishment, although Mascherano will still be suspended for Today’s Premier League game with Arsenal.
A club spokesman said:
We have put in the appeal and requested that the penalty not be set aside pending the outcome.
Consequently, Javier is suspended for tomorrow’s game at Arsenal.
