Liverpool 4-2 (agg 5-3) Arsenal
Liverpool hit four to fire their way into the Champions League semi final against Chelsea.
Abou Diaby put Arsenal into an early lead when Hleb slotted the ball to Diaby just inside the penalty box, Diaby drove towards the right of the goal and powered the ball into Reina’s near post.
But their lead was cut short Hyppia lost Senderos from a Gerrard corner, the half yard Hyppia gained was enough for him to pick the far corner with his head, the ball went over Fabregas’s head into the corner of the net.
Fernando Torres looked to have settled the tie when he turned and drilled delightfully into the top corner, after Senderos gave the Spaniard too much room.
Arsenal took control again. Theo Walcott on as sub, picked the ball up in the middle of the park, ran through the Liverpool defence and cut for Emmanuel Adebayor to level.
But Kolo Toure was judged to have fouled Ryan Babel just minutes later and Gerrard held his nerve from the spot and fired into the net, leaving Almunia no chance.
In the last of extra time, Babel got onto a long ball and out sprinted Fabregas to neatly finish past Almunia.
Liverpool will face Chelsea in the semi final who knocked out Fenerbahce.
