Kevin Keegan is set for showdown talks with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.
Mike Ashley, the Newcastle owner has called Kevin Keegan down to London for talks on Friday to discuss his outburst in the press, following Monday’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Ashley is thought to want to understand why Keegan claimed the club were ‘a million miles away’ from breaking into the top four, a statement that has angered both Ashley and the Newcastle fans.
Keegan also said there was ‘nothing he could do’ to get Newcastle into the Champions League because he hasn’t ‘got enough money’.
The remark that is thought to have most annoyed the multi millionaire tycoon, related to their relationship, Keegan described it as ‘perfect’ because he has ‘never spoken to him’.
Keegan returned to the fold as Newcastle manager in January this year, as the surprise replacement for the sacked Sam Allardyce. Many would think he is not in a position of strength as his results have hardly reignited excitement on the St James’ park terraces.
I am going to London on Friday to talk with Mike Ashley. That is a good thing and I will look forward to it.
That’s the only comment I am going to make on anything to do with that.
A pre-match press conference ahead of Newcastle’s Premier League match at Everton was brought forward 24 hours to pre-empt questions on the meeting.
This is a pre-match conference for the game against Everton and that’s all I’m going to talk about from now on. Any other questions, they’ll save for another day and I will try on that day, whenever it is, to answer them as honestly as I can.
