South Africa have given themselves a chance of qualifying for the semi finals of the Confederations Cup after Bernard Parker scored twice in a 2 – 0 win over New Zealand.
Last time out, Parker had been branded as the villain after he inadvertently blocked a goal bound effort as the hosts could only draw 0 – 0 with Iraq, but this time Parker, wearing the Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly football boots in Platinum / Silver / Red, was the hero.
Parker’s goals came on 21 and 52 minutes and both were made by Tsepo Masilela with Everton’s Steve Pienaar also heavily involved in the first.
With Spain beating Iraq 1 – 0, the permutations in Group A are interesting.
South Africa, with four points, will guarantee qualification if they get a draw on Saturday with Spain. If they lose and the Iraqis beat New Zealand it will then come down to goal difference.
