England striker Emile Heskey says Fifa must do more to combat racism among supporters.
His comments follow Fifa’s decision last month to only fine Croatia £15,000 after the Wigan front man suffered racial abuse at the hands of the Zagreb crowd.
Speaking to the BBC in the build to England’s World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan, Heskey echoed the recent criticism of the world governing body by Rio Ferdinand saying:
Everybody knows that (the fine) is not adequate.
I respect Fifa but if it happens again they’ll have to do something else.
Is a points deduction the way forward? Is that going to stop the fans from chanting more, I don’t know.
But they’ve probably got to look at it in a broader picture as well and see where they can help.
