Henrik Larsson says farewell to Manchester United with a goal
Swedish striker Henrik Larsson ended his two month loan spell with Manchester united with a goal that took them into the quarter finals of the Champions League for only the first time in three years. Even though Larsson has only scored three times on his spell, his impact on the team has been great and there have been calls for him to become a more permanent fixture at Old Trafford. But he is returning to Helsingborgs with his head held high and a standing ovation from the Old Trafford fans ringing in his ears.
Henrik Larsson in his red Adidas Predator Absolute Power football boots provided the only highlight of an otherwise a dull affair, with Lille defending strongly and Manchester United packing their midfield at the expense of flair and creativity, with Larsson at the head of a diamond formation. Larsson scored with an emphatic header, following a cross from Cristiano Ronaldo in the second half to take Manchester United through 2-0 on aggregate.
Manchester United will face a stronger challenge at the next step and it will be interesting to see the tactics Alex Ferguson employs without Larsson to head the strike force.
The Champions League quarter finals is made up of the following teams: Manchester United, Bayern Munich, PSV Eindhoven, Liverpool, Chelsea, AS Roma,Valencia and AC Milan. The draw for the Champions League quarter finals will take place on Friday 9th March in Athens.
