Ahead of the Newcastle vs. Chelsea game on Saturday 2nd November Gillette is pitching up outside St James Park with a team of mobile barbers to give football fans a pre match ritual of a different kind as they rally support for Movember and encourage men up and down the country to embrace the gentlemanly spirit of the Mo on and off the pitch.
A barbershop quartet will add a gentlemanly twist to the proceedings; Newcastle fans will be offered free shaves and serenaded with the clubs historic folk song Blaydon Races.
Football fans are not the obvious choice for a gentlemanly Mo makeover. More commonly known for their japes than their chivalry Gillette is hoping to bring them together through song, sporting spirit and through sporting a Mo!
This latest tactic is part of Gillette's campaign which aims to turn sportsmen into gentlemen through the power of the Mo. Gillette is also putting its money where its Mo is by pledging to donate money throughout the month on behalf of all footballers in the English Leagues and the Conference Premier who grow a Mo and score a goal and for every clean sheet.
Gillette have have taken their mobile shave-stop to Manchester, too.
Ahead of Manchester City’s victory over CSKA Moscow, Blues fans were treated to a shave and song – in this case, a rendition of pre-match favourite Blue Moon.
Jared Regan Gillette Brand Manager said: śFootball fans are the best fans in the world and give their team's unlimited support.
We are hoping that with a little encouragement from our barbers and the barbershop quartet they will direct the same levels of enthusiasm they show at a game into growing a Mo and helping us support the Movember cause. Movember is about bringing real men together to raise awareness for real issues and what better way to bring men together than through sporting spiritĹĄ
Gillette is recruiting a nationwide team of Mo growing gentlemen who will join together to enjoy team camaraderie aplenty and raise even more money for Movember. Gillette is encouraging every Mo Bro to join the team at www.mogentsunited.co.uk to get involved in challenges, win great prizes and produce their own association football sticker- for the ultimate profile picture!
As a non-Newcastle United fan, we’re thrilled to finally be able to understand the words to Blaydon Races, thanks to Movember’s in-house barbershop quartet (no brand is complete without one, you know) – and it’s another fun, and completely unexpected effort way to promote men’s health issues as part of Movember.
