A bankruptcy petition filed against Paul Gascoigne will be heard today in the High Court in London.
It’s not known how much the former England star owes but it has been revealed that his assets total just £250,000.
At the highpoint of his career, the midfielder was earning over £1 million a year for his work on the field plus much more through high profile sponsorships and endorsements.
His net worth was once calculated at just under £15 million but his hectic lifestyle, divorce from wife Sheryl, gifts to friends and charity and failed business ventures have eaten away at his fortune.
He’s also paid thousands in rehab costs as since retiring as a player, Gascoigne has battled drink and drugs problems.
Capped 57 times for England he commanded a huge fan base, most notably when England returned home from Italy in 1990 having just missed out on a place in the World Cup final.
