The Futsal World Cup is hotting up in Brazil (it’s about 30 degrees C at the moment). With all the teams having now played, the form sides are starting to show their pedigree.
On Friday two time world champions Spain won their first three points of the competition by defeating Libya by 3 goals to nil. With the victory the Spaniards top their group with 4 points.
In the same group Czech Republic debuted in the competition with a 4-1 victory over Uruguay, this puts Uruguay in a dangerous situation with only one point after two matches.
In group C, also played on Friday, Argentina defeated Egypt in an exciting match; the Argentinians came back from 2-1 down to win 4-2, guaranteeing their first place in their group with 3 wins in 3 matches.
In the last match of the day making their d'©but in the competition, Ukraine defeated Guatemala by 6 goals to 2.
On Saturday Brazil faced their first real challenge in the competition against Russia, again another easy victory for the South Americans 7 nil was the final score. The victory guarantees a place in the next stage of the competition for the Brazilians.
In the same group Japan defeated the Solomon Island 7-2 keeping their dream of' a place in the next stage of the competition.
After a difficult match against Italy, Thailand won their first match against the USA; the Thai’s were favourites for this match and confirmed that by winning 5-3.
In the most anticipated match in group B Italy defeated Portugal 3-1. The Italians were more efficient and thanks to a series of errors by the Portuguese squad, the Italians guaranteed their third win – putting them on the top of group B with 9 points.
On Sunday, playing in group C, Egypt won their first three points of the competition. The Egyptians defeated China by 6 goals to 2. With the victory, Egypt still have chances of qualifying into the next stage of the competition.
The first surprise of the tournament came in the game between Argentina and the Ukraine. The Argentinians opened the scoring but allowed the Ukrainians to come back and turn things around. However a late goal by Giustozzi meant the Argies drew the match. With the draw Argentina maintain the first spot in group C with 7 points.
The revelation of the Futsal World Cup saw Iran defeated by Libya 4-2 and are now second place in group D with good chances of advancing to the next stage.
Finally Spain showed why their are World Champions with a great victory over the Czech Republic. The Spaniards won by 4 goals to nil. Brazilian born player Marcelo standing out, he scored twice and was awarded a penalty after been fouled inside the box. Yet another Brazilian born player Daniel capitalised for the Spaniards. Now Spain have 7 points and are top of group D.
