World Cup Football Boots: Nigeria

Fifa Ranking: 21

Path to the World Cup

It wasn’t an easy qualification for Nigeria. Tunisia led their group early on but stuttered opening the oor again for Nigeria. Their qualification was sealed with Obafemi Martins becoming the hero. Coming on at half time against Kenya, he scored two goals in a game they needed to win, they did 3-2!

Key Players

Obafemi Martins and Joseph Yobo.

After his heroics in Nigeria’s final qualification game for the World Cup, Obafemi Martins will be high in confidence going into the finals. Quick, sharp and dynamic, his goals will be crucial in what is a very defensive and organised unit.

At the heart of the defence is the team captain Joseph Yobo who plays club football for Everton. Yobo’s experience both at club and international level will be tested to the full in a side that is renowned for infighting.

The Gaffer

Former Sweden boss Lars Lagerback signed a five-month deal with Nigeria in February to manage their World Cup campaign. He replaced Shaibu Amodu, who was widely criticised for his tactics at the Africa Cup of Nations, despite the Super Eagles finishing third. He had an exceptional record with Sweden, taking them to World Cups and European Championships.

Prediction: Round of 16
