World Cup Football Boots: Greece
Fifa Ranking: 13
Path to the World Cup
Despite starting their qualification with three wins, Greece faltered and ended up as group runners, leading to a play off to qualify for the World Cup. Ukraine were their rivals and after a 0-0 home draw in the first leg, Greece came through winners with a 1-0 victory away.
Key Players
Georgios Karagounis and Theo Gekas.
Georgios Karagounis the Greek captain, has a wealth of experience to go along with his set piece taking. If the Greeks get a free kick within range, Karagounis could cause havoc with the erratic Jabulani football.
Theo Gekas who plays for Bayer Leverkusen was the leading scorer in the European group stage qualification. One to watch, should the Greeks get the ball high enough up the pitch.
The Gaffer
Otto Rehhagel is the same manager that shocked the world in winning Euro 2004 with Greece. That said, this will be the first World Cup finals for the oldest manager in South Africa (71). Otto will be hoping to improve on the Greek World Cup record of not gaining a single point. If anyone can lead the Greek charge, its Otto.
Prediction: Group exit.
