FIFA PLAN SPECIAL MEETING AFTER PLAY OFF’S

Fifa official are to hold an extraordinary general meeting next month which will discuss a number of incidents at the World Cup play off matches.

Thierry Henry’s hand ball against the Republic of Ireland is expected to be high on the agenda as is the crowd trouble before, during and after Algeria’s win over Egypt.

It’s possible that Fifa may also discuss the seedings issue after so much criticism was leveled at them for ‘favouring’ bigger nations.

Betting irregularities and refereeing performances will be up for debate as will Uefa president Michel Platini’s idea to employ an extra official behind each goal to monitor contentitous issues in the penalty box. The scheme is currently being trialed in the Europa League.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday next week in Cape Town, when executive committee members are already due for a meeting to discuss the seedings for next year’s World Cup. The draw will be held two days later.
