The race for the 5th spot Uefa Cup place continues, as the two in contention battled out a game with a thrilling second half.

This game never looked likely to turn into a thriller during the first half, but it was worth the wait.

Six minuted into the second half Yakubu broke down the left hand side and just short of the byline cut the ball back into the box, his ball missed the oncoming attackers, but Phil Neville was running onto the wayward ball and struck it first time, Carson dived but the deflection off of Laursen beat him.

Villa drew level 10 minutes before time when Gareth Barry’s corner bounced in the middle of the penalty area, Agbonlahor running in from the far post took iton the half volley and made no mistake in finding the net.

But 3 minutes later, seven minutes before time, Andy Johnson played a fine ball to the far post, Yobo got on the end of it and volleyed first time into the goal.

A minute later and Villa were back level again, Barry’s ball again from the left hand side pinged into the box. Carew got to the ball first and under pressure headed past Carson.
