Chelsea are now just two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United after a hard fought 1 – nil victory over Everton at Goodison Park.
Michael Essien hit the winner 4 minutes before the end of the first half, beating Tim Howard after neat inter play with Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Everton were industrious but lacked the quality to unlock the visitors defence.
Manuel Fernandes went close with a curling free-kick as the hosts pressed for an equaliser, but Chelsea held on.
It may have been a nervy finish for Chelsea but they were good value for the three points and Avram Grant’s side are back in the hunt for the league title.
Avram Grant;
It was a good victory, I am very happy with it, we controlled the game.
We had chances to make it 2-0 or 3-0 but our last pass was a bit sloppy. We scored a fantastic goal though.
Despite all the speculation, it’s not hard to focus. It’s just part of life.
