CONFUSION REIGNS AT NEWCASTLE

Newcastle United badgeKevin Keegan’s future as coach of Newcastle remains unclear after a day of rumour and counter rumour at St James’ Park.

It was reported that Keegan had left the club after a series of disagreements with the board over a lack of transfer day activity. Later, it was being touted that the former England boss had been sacked.

However, chief executive of the League Managers Association (LMA) Richard Bevan says neither scenario is true.

“Newcastle Football Club and its fans are massively important to Kevin and he has not resigned as manager of the club,” said Bevan.

In a statement, United said: “Kevin has raised a number of issues.

“We’d like to stress Kevin is extremely important both now and in the future and want him to continue to play an instrumental role as manager.”

However, the statement did not go into detail as to whether Keegan had left the club in the preceding hours.
