Chelsea have confirmed that captain John Terry will sit out the weekend FA Cup tie with Cardiff having been given a few days holiday following allegations about his private life.
It’s understood that he has flown to Dubai to meet up with his wife and two young children in the wake of his alleged affair with the ex-girlfriend of former team mate Wayne Bridge.
Terry, who was sacked as England captain by Fabio Capello last week, played in Wednesday’s 2 – 1 defeat to Everton where he was outdone by Louis Saha who scored both the home sides’ goals.
Explaining the move and Terry’s performance at Goodison, Chelsea assistant boss Ray Wilkins said:
John has been given a few days leave and he will not play on Saturday.
I think that’s inevitable when you’re playing against someone like Louis Saha.
John isn’t infallible, he will miss headers and he will get beaten in the air, but he’s been absolutely outstanding for us. We’ve been delighted with the way he’s played.
It’s ok John, people makes mistakes every now and again, it’s the matter of rather you can learn from it and get back on your feet, you’ll always be a chelsea man, support!
