Premier League Chief Executive Peter Scudamore announced this afternoon that the idea to hold a playoff between the teams finishing 7th, 6th, 5th & 4th for the final Champions League spot.
Scudamore has confirmed that there wasn’t enough support from the League’s 20 chairmen for the idea to ever come to fruition:
“The main topic of discussion was the prospect of a Champions League play-off for that fourth qualifying place,”
“We gave it a lot of discussion, a lot of detail, a lot of data. But there was not enough support to take the idea forward, so we won’t be discussing that proposal any further.”
We chatted to Manchester United’s John O’Shea on what he thought on the idea, read more of that interview here.
