CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FANTASY XI

The Champions League never fails in delivering quality, excitement and surprise and this season has been no exception

champions League fantasy xi

But if we could take the best elements of every team that made it to the last 16 this year – the best players – who would make the cut in an ultimate team?

Well, we’re here to tell you with who we think would make the cut in a Footy-Boots.com Fantasy XI…

Goalkeeper:' Manuel Neuer, Bayern

It took Neuer a while to settle in at Bayern and win over the home fans, but his all round ability and presence between the sticks has confirmed the shot stopper as one of the top keepers in the world.

A sound and confident number 1 for the Champions League 11.

Defenders:

RB: Dani Alves – Barcelona – adidas F50 adiZerofootball boots

Alves may have a reputation for displays of play acting, but when the Brazilian stays on his feet, his record in the top club competition in the world speaks for itself. His energy up and down the flank,' particularly' offensively is top notch.

And that ball he played to Messi against PSG – well… See that pass again

CB: Thiago Silva – PSG – Nike CTR360 football boots

He’s been tremendous the last three years, and since joining PSG from Milan, his form has been maintained. His influence was a big factor in PSG making it to the last 16.

Despite being labelled ˜fat and overrated„(amongst other things) by the perfect role model Joey Barton, Silva has proved beyond doubt why PSG stumped up a mega £35 million for a defender.

Midfield:

Xavi – Barcelona – adidas Predator football boots

Truly the linchpin in the Barcelona midfield, it’s almost as if nothing happens in the centre circle without his say so. His astounding 88% pass completion in this years competition tops the charts once again and would surely make him one of the first players on any manager’s teamsheet.

Forwards:

Messi Champions League 11

Lionel Messi – Barcelona – adidas F50 adiZero football boots

What more is there to say about Messi that hasn’t already been said?

He’s just 25 years old and is already being lauded amongst the best the game has ever seen.

Fast, skilful and great with both feet – there have been games in which Messi has been completely unplayable.

Cristiano Ronaldo Champions League 11

Well, the only thing I would change is that there were 0.000 Arsenal players in the second one. No Fabregas, no Walcott. At least one is necessary . . .

GK: Almunia (valdes untested, vds had a great defense in front of him)
RB: Alves (maybe o shea bc he got the only goal)
CB: Terry (barca didn’t have much to do with possession)
CB: Ferdinand (great job silencing adebayor, cant give defensive place to arsenal being the only defense to concede a goal)
LB: Bosingwa (to keep Messi quiet is something most defenders have to fantasize about, Evra dealt with Walcott but Walcott is no Messi, Abidal was attacking more than defending)
CM: Carrick (did a great job disrupting the midfield, Fabregas was virtually not there, Mikel would be runner up having kept Barcas midfield to minimal damage)
RCM: Iniesta (possibly the best player of both games, great skill hardworker, only problem with him is hes inconsistent, but this week he was on, well done, chelseas midfield was there for tackling, not very impressed with that, but they did do a great job)
LCM: Anderson (showed that he should be in the starting XI a little more often, tons of creativity, really like it, arsenals mids were held to nothing)
RW: Ronaldo (really opens the game up for man u, scary for defenses, Messi wasn’t fully there, when you’re incredible every other game of the year and you come into this and you are only amazing its sad that you find people like me who are disappointed at it, he had his chance against bosingwa now hes gotta deal with cole, one of the best LBs in the world)
LW: Malouda (did a great job of making sure Alves and Messi were being pressured at all times, Walcott and Henry were defended pretty tightly)
ST: Rooney (None of the strikers impressed me, none of them had more than 2 shots, Drogba touched the ball maybe twice, etoo was quiet, rooney and tevez both had the space and should have attacked it a lot harder, adebayor looked like a practice ground training dummy, i thought about putting ronaldo to here and slotting messi to the right but i think rooney did the best, even though he was playing more of a left wing kind of position)

I think vidic instead of pique, vidic was probably our best player all season, on top of that he is a great captain, vidic and ivanovic in defense would make this team become incredibly sturdy at the back.
I also wouldnt pick bale, he isnt a consistent player, Im thinking J.S.Park since he has been working like a little trojan throughout his time back at the CL and has been a vital part to man uniteds system.
I think rooney should come into the system somewhere because he has been very impressive since he went back on form.
    So my team would be
GK – Edwin Van Der Sar
    RB – Dani Alves
    CB – Nemanja Vidic
    CB – Branislav Ivanovic
    LB –  Marcelo
    RM – Cristiano Ronaldo
