Cameroon’s star forward Samuel Eto’o has threatened to walk out of the squad just days before the World Cup.
The Inter Milan hit-man was recently brought under fire from an unlikely source, as famed ‘Indomitable Lions’ striker Roger Milla singled out Eto’o for criticism, claiming that he doesn’t put the effort in for Cameroon as he does at club level. Eto’o, responded this weekend by questioning œIs it worth me going to the World Cup?
œI still have a few days to think about it but I will see if my participation is important because I don™t need this in my career.
Whilst there’s a little bit of ‘toys out of the pram’ air about the incident, Eto’o‘s reaction is more than a little bit understandable. The British media have often faced accusations of being too quick to lay into the national team, but a former player who’s faced the World Cup before?
We’d expect a bit better from the man who practically invented the “Corner-Flag-Dance” celebration.

Eto’o‘s team mates would also miss him in the dressing room, not just for his skill and team spirit, but for his generosity! Burnley defender and Cameroon international Andre Bikey recently revealed that Eto’o promised to give watches worth £29,000 each to the squad that helped Cameroon qualify but Bikey quipped: “No-one has seen them yet!
“We heard Samuel speak about this and he does like to give presents. He does like to do things for his country.”
To see Eto’o walk from the squad would also be a huge blow for Puma, who have invested heavily in the star. Eto’o has been a figurehead for their Africa Unity Kit and v1.10 Tricks football boots.
