Everton midfielder Tim Cahill is excited about the prospect of getting to the latter stages of the FA Cup this season.
The Toffees take on Middlesbrough in the quarter-finals on Sunday and Cahill thinks they have what it takes to go all the way.
The Australian was part of the Millwall squad that reached the final in 2004 and he is after a repeat with his current club. If Everton can make it past struggling Middlesbrough, they will be travelling to Wembley for a semi-final clash.
With this in mind, Cahill has described this season’s FA Cup as a ‘big opportunity’ for the team to win a long awaited trophy. If Everton can combine a top six finish with some silverware, it really would be a fantastic achievement.
As Everton’s main goal scoring threat, Cahill will have a big part to play in whether this becomes a reality or not and he has admitted that he is ‘confident’ about the task ahead.
So, what chance of Everton progressing? Well, there is no doubt that the football odds have them down as favourites. Middlesbrough were hammered at Tottenham in midweek and Goodison Park is a very difficult place to go.
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has called on his team to ‘restore pride’ this weekend, but even he must know that it is going to be a very big ask for his team to win the game.
This is the FA Cup though and anything football betting related can happen. Who would have predicted Portsmouth to beat Manchester United last year for example?
With players such as Tim Cahill fired up and in form though, Everton will be confident of progressing, especially if they manage to grab themselves an early goal.
