Rafael Benitez has refused to concede the title race to Manchester United despite his Liverpool side being held to a 1 – 1 draw with Manchester City at the weekend.
Liverpool are now 7 points behind United with Chelsea 3 points further off in third.
Former Liverpool player Craig Bellamy put City ahead at Anfield before Dirk Kuyt rescued a point late on.
There now just 12 games left for Liverpool to overhaul their rivals and Benitez said:
It’s not easy but the main thing for me is to win our games and at Old Trafford (on 14th March) we have to win.
When you are playing catch up you have to win so we are disappointed.
I have confidence that we can still win it, but we must win our next two league games against Middlesbrough and Sunderland and then win against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Then we may have a different situation. But I just accept that this has been a bad result and it clearly makes it more difficult for us to win the title.
We have to win our games and see where that takes us. And clearly Manchester United are playing well and winning games.
Benitez can say what ever he wants, there is no way Liverpool will catch up on Man U.
