Nike have launched a ‘Become Legends’ marketing campaign for the new Arsenal away kit, which celebrates Arsenal’s league victory in 1989.

‘Become Legends’ features former players Paul Merson, Alan Smith, Steve Bould and Michael Thomas, who team up with current Arsenal players discussing the side’s dramatic last gasp Title win against Liverpool at Anfield in 1989.
To celebrate the 1989 campaign, Arsenal’s away shirt for the forthcoming season has been inspired by the away kit that Arsenal wore throughout the momentous campaign.
In the 1988/9 season, Arsenal had built up a 19 point lead over Liverpool, but Liverpool chipped away at that and in the final game of the season, Arsenal travelled to Anfield needing to win by two goals. Arsenal managed it when Michael Thomas, who incidentally went on to play for Liverpool, added to Alan Smith’s opener, scoring in injury time to seal Arsenal’s first title in 18 years.
