Mikel Arteta is out for the rest of the season with a ruptured knee ligament, sustained yesterday.
Mikel Arteta, the Spanish Everton midfielder, has been ruled out for the rest of this season with a ruptured knee ligament.
After just three minutes, Arteta was stretchered in Everton’s goalless draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park yesterday.
Arteta landed awkwardly after a challenge with Peter Lovenkrands, which saw his knee joint jar against the turf.
Arteta’s injury was scanned last night and it was revealed that the 26-year-old now faces a long lay off.
Everton club statement:
He underwent a succession of scans on his knee on Sunday night to ascertain the full extent of the injury, with the results revealing he has no chance of pulling on an Everton jersey again this term.
Massively disappointing, even for a neutral. Arteta’s a joy to watch and I hope he makes a full and swift recovery.
