If Steve McClaren can’t get England to qualify against Christmas Island, Isle-of-Sheppey and Dog and Duck, with the talent he has, he should never be able to work for England again, he should be banned.
These are the views of Arsenal legend Perry Groves, speaking exclusively to Footy-Boots.com. He refers to England’s group to qualify for the 2008 European Championship where England are facing Croatia, Russia, Israel, Estonia, Macedonia and Andorra in Group E. England are on level points with Macedonia and Israel, in 3rd position. They recently went down 2 – 0 to Croatia and drew with Macedonia.
Groves, is concerned that England are going nowhere under the current manager.
Groves agreed with Croatia’s manager Slaven Bilic who said that with the players England have got with 4, or 5 world class players, he can’t understand why England are struggling and he is spot on.
Groves went on “Look at England with Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Ferdinand and Ashley Cole, if they are not the best in the world in their positions, they are amongst the top 3, so why are we struggling?
“He’s a Tony Blair with Ginger Hair”
“McClaren is a Tony Blair with ginger hair. He tries to come across as if football is so scientific. He makes out that those in the game can see things that fans can’t see. Yet what has he done?”
Perry Groves was George Graham’s first signing at Arsenal and went on to win the League Title with Arsenal and two League Cup winners medals.
He has just released his own autobiography titled “We All Live In A Perry Groves World” and will be featuring at the forthcoming Legends Derby Golf Classic event in September 2007.
More of Perry’s revealing interview will be released over the next few days, here on Footy-Boots.com.
