adidas have raised the bar yet again with the release of the first football boot to weigh less than 100 grams, to be available for purchase.
adizero 99g
First seen as concept boot in 2013 at an adidas innovation event, the adizero 99g is a truly streamlined boot built for speed.
Weather Proof
Unlike synthetic or leather football boots which gain weight when wet, this boot remains at 99g. This is due to a special lightweight material that adidas adopted, having been inspired by a material NASA have used.
Protection
A football boot has to be stripped down to be lightweight, but adidas have not overlooked player protection – and this cleat comes equipped with an engineered skeleton that gives added protection.
New Stud Configuration
The chassis has been updated to a unique stud layout, with a three-stud heel to ensure the fastest possible movements in all directions.
Upper
The lightweight upper layer is made from a single layer of woven polyester mesh. This material is lightweight, strong and allows light to penetrate through.
Lightest Football Boots in the World
adidas have constantly pushed the envelope since the launch of the 2010 adiZero – dropping the benchmark in boot weight to 165g. Then, just six months later, with the adiZero Prime that was cut again to 145g. With the release of the latest F50 Crazylight, the weight was stripped back once again to 135g.
Limited Collection
the adizero 99g is the first football boot released in new adidas Football “Limited Collection”. Footwear items to be included in the “Limited Collection” range will be those released in super-limited quantities.
In the case of the 99g adizero, there will be just 299 numbered pairs put on sale globally. Furthermore, if you see yourself playing in these boots, you’ll need to be a UK size 8.5 as that is the only size that will be available to buy.
On sale from Wednesday 15th April 2015. Only 299 pairs. All sized UK 8.5.
Is this a new dawn in football innovation?
