Just when you think adidas couldn’t possibly defy expectations anymore – they pull something like the new adidas Predator SL out of their hats. Prepare yourselves ladies and gentlemen, for one of the football boots releases of the year.

adidas Predator SL Overview

adidas adiPower Predator SL - Football Boots

The adidas adiPower Predator has redefined what we came to expect from the range since it’s reveal in May. No longer the power-oriented, bulky Predator of generations past – it was changed for a new era of players that demand the tightest of control and the fastest of football boots.

Now, it’s set to go a step lighter. 190 grammes, in fact.

The adidas adiPower Predator SL builds upon the Sprintframe foundations set down the the adiZero range, and adds another F50 staple – SprintSkin.

Replacing the Taurus leather of the adidas adiPower Predator is the SprintSkin that helped the adiZero break the record of lightest football boots ever back in 2010. This single-layer synthetic soon gained a reputation for great ball feel as well as it’s weight-reducing qualities, which is presumably why adidas saw fit to incorporate it into the design of their flagship cleats.

One compromise comes in the signature ‘Predator Zone’, which, on the adidas Predator SL isn’t the silicon rubber element we’ve come to expect. Instead it’s composed of coated SprintSkin to similar effect, increasing spin and control on the ball.

adidas adiPower Predator SL - Football Boots˘ Alan reckons'¦

”There’s no doubt that adidas are setting new boundaries for football boots of all types with releases like this – and WOW what a great looking shoe! BUT did they have to release it so close to the retail launch of the standard adiPower? Paying customers have only just got their new cleats, and already there’s something newer on the shelves…”

The predator zone is made of SprintSkin?. So then, this shoe’s upper is just entirely SprintSkin, but some of it is coated and textured? Sounds more like an F50 to me. Nah, not liking it.

adidas….what are you doing. chasing nike for the past few years. what ever happenned to the adidas that made good boots with quality and traditional material? not buying this garbage anymore. i just bought a pair of kelme k-leaters for less than 1/3 of the price of these.  can anyone save the boot world?

so its the adizero with a different design, stud configuration and a power spine..not really a power boot, more a weighted speed boot if that makes sense…

first, i have to admit that these babies does looked really good. with that badass black and neon-ish blue/yellow.
kinda reminds me of T90 laser II’s release colorway, the black upper really compliments the neon green eVENT element beneath the shotshield. now that’s really smart -not just crazily coloring ur boots as bright as possible.

however, i’m not a big fan of this whole “control predator” hype. predator was all about shooting. u know, more swerve thingie, more power and accuracy thingie, etc.
i thought adidas have adipures for the likes of playmakers, dribblers and pass spreaders… *confused*
if today’s playmakers wants gimmicks, adidas should make another silo -like nike’s CTR360, instead of messing around with such a legendary establishment as predator™.

as an oldschool beckham-generation shooter, i was not impressed when i saw the adipower’s release. the predatorzone is quite low-profile, and the gimmicks are minimal -nothing close to the mind blowing powerpulse back in 2004. not something that i could see myself eagerly shooting around with.
but now that i’m reading about this SL version… damn, i’m dissapointed. the predatorzone looked like something i’d find on an absolado class, the upper are desperate to become F50s, as if the boots got some identity problems. reminds me of those Chinese’s poorly-made fake boots colored as various models, but basically same design and shape -exactly what adidas are doing: making different kinds of adizeros in various names, shapes and colors.

anyway, i’m not saying that the boots is bad -they’re good boots really, as any other adidas-made boots. the sales would rocket to the top of the charts on any adidas board meetings (Kaka DOES switch to these). i’m just a little disheartened at the prospect of where my favorite series of all time seems to be heading.

    haha, haven’t comment this long for a couple of while ^^;

    cheers guys.

Im with Channo7 here. Whatever happened to a predator boot being a predator.
It seems the predator is now going along the lines of the F50 and trying to be as light as possible.
A great marketing tool for adidas would be to bring back the accelerator or just a good old fashioned predator with a red tongue.
The last boot that I remember doing this is the absolute. The powerswerves were also a superb boot.
