Adidas Announce New Sponsorship Deal

Adidas Rams Joma for Sponsorship of Derby County

absolute-sg.jpgChampionship team Derby County have announced a new deal with German giant Adidas that will see Adidas supply team and staff kit and branded merchandise including replica kit for the Rams for the next five years. The deal starts next season, when Derby hope to be in the premiership, alongside fellow Adidas sponsored teams of Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool.

“We are absolutely delighted,” said Derby County managing director Mike Horton, “as Adidas is a brand renowned for quality and that will appeal to our fans.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for the club and Adidas to work together, and marks the start of what should be a long and rewarding relationship.”

Joma: 0 Adidas:1

Joma Numero 10The signing sees the dumping of Spanish sportswear and football boot maker Joma, who are understood to have a four year deal already in place, with two years still left to run. But problems last year, which saw 1,700 of the new home shirts being sent back to the manufacturer after faults were discovered lead to a shortage of replica shirts at the start of the season’s opening game look like bringing about the end of the Joma deal. It is an unfortunate loss for Joma, whose football boots are the market leader in Spain, and are regularly seen as Charlton Athletic’s sponsor, but yet another great signing for Adidas in its battle for the replica kit market over Nike.
